Sierra Event – Ascending to New Heights

The Music Dealers have been busy bees lately. Since our Pattern Bar event, we’ve been working hard to create another special show for our supporters.

TMD is excited to finally kick off Sierra – a curated event planned by our team from the bottom-up. With the goal of bringing you quality production, we partnered with Inlight and Butros Music to guarantee a night to remember.

Spoiler: We’ve upgraded big time.

Sierra – Friday 4/12

From 9pm-2am, TMD will be hosting its next label event at The Deco Building to celebrate the birthday of one of our own – Mt. Sierra. Our event will be the first of its kind at this notable venue, and we are honored to have the opportunity to showcase our artistry here (and show them what a real party looks like!).

Since birthdays only happen once a year, TMD is following suit with a rare appearance of special B2B sets. We strategically partnered our artists together after holding private listening sessions at our team’s Joshua Tree retreat.

We are also thrilled to welcome our headliner – Skonka – and special guest – DJ Chvbz – to the lineup.

Skonka has proven himself to be a favorite in the LA scene. The Repopulate Mars signed DJ-producer is a frequent returner at Lickndip as well as a new face at Space Yacht. He will be performing with Space Yacht for the first time at their Opening Party at Sound, adding to his already long list of accomplishments.

Hailing from sunny San Diego, DJ Chvbz will be making an appearance at Sierra as our special guest. The DJ-producer has made waves in the SD scene, bringing techno to a region in dire need of exposure. Chvbz is also ½ of music duo – Alsa Dinero – alongside Alonzo Logan.

The Deco Building

When it comes to LA architecture, The Deco Building is a prominent landmark with rich history. Built in the 1920s, its design was inspired by Art Deco which was a popular design trend at the time. The building’s simple, symmetrical, and ornamental design reflects the Great Gatsby era at its finest… and just like Jay Gatsby, TMD sure knows how to throw a party with style.

Because this is one of LA’s last remaining black-and-gold Art Deco structures, it has been added to the National Register – the official list of historic landmarks recognized for preservation.

The Deco Building was built by Morgan, Walls, and Clements who heavily influenced LA’s early architectural landscape. Coincidentally, the firm also designed other infamous event spaces in LA, including the Mayan and Wiltern theatres.

Up until 1970, the two-story building’s original purpose was a bank, which can be validated by the enormous vaults that still exist in the back of the building. Since then, it has been used as a restaurant, nightclub, and event space up until Covid.

Once HEXI took over the lease in 2022, events resumed with the goal of reviving the energy that once existed in the building. HEXI is approaching this revival with a community-centered focus, tying well with TMD’s own values of artist collaboration.

Today, The Deco Building hosts events inspired by creativity – stand-up comedy, film industry gatherings, art exhibitions, and concerts. However, TMD’s event will be the first of its kind to deal house and techno beats inside these historic walls.
